The Imperial is one of the Southern Highlands’ most iconic wedding venues, a heritage hotel that has been beautifully restored and sits at the heart of Blackheath or Bowral with the kind of gravitas that only a building with genuine history can carry. The combination of Victorian architecture, period interiors and surrounding highlands landscape creates a backdrop that is immediately striking.

My documentary approach suits The Imperial perfectly. The venue has a grandeur that I do not need to manufacture, I simply move through the day capturing the real moments as they happen against a backdrop that does a great deal of the visual heavy lifting.

The property and surrounding area offer strong portrait locations. The heritage facade, the period interiors, the gardens and the nearby countryside all contribute to a variety of environments within easy reach. During portrait time, I work with whatever the light and your comfort level dictates, the results are always natural rather than staged.

I am based on the South Coast and photograph weddings across the Southern Highlands regularly, including at The Imperial, Bendooley Estate, Montrose House, Mali Brae Farm, Ravensthorpe and Fitzroy Inn.
