Terrara House is a historic homestead set on the Shoalhaven River near Nowra, a property with over 150 years of history and one of the most romantically situated event spaces on the South Coast. The white colonial homestead, the river backdrop, the surrounding gardens and the ancient fig trees all combine to create a wedding setting that feels genuinely extraordinary.
A Venue Unlike Any Other on the South Coast
What sets Terrara House apart is the Shoalhaven River itself. Weddings here happen with one of NSW’s great rivers as a backdrop, wide, calm and lined with ancient eucalyptus and fig trees that create a canopy unlike anything else in the region. The combination of the heritage homestead and the river landscape is deeply romantic and provides portrait conditions that are difficult to find anywhere else.
My Approach at Terrara House
I photograph weddings at Terrara House the same way I photograph everywhere, by documenting what actually happens rather than directing what I want to see. The venue’s natural beauty and its heritage setting do not need embellishment. My job is to be present in the right moments and let the day unfold authentically.
Portrait time at Terrara House typically takes us along the river, through the ancient fig trees and around the homestead gardens, a genuinely varied environment within a very short distance.
The Shoalhaven River Light
The river creates a particular quality of light at Terrara House, the water reflects and softens the afternoon sun in ways that produce portrait conditions that are luminous and warm. Combined with the canopy of the fig trees and the heritage architecture of the homestead, the photographic environment here is truly special.
