Illawarra Wedding Photographer

Illawarra Wedding Photographer | Eliza Jade Photography

The Illawarra is home. I am based in Wollongong and have been photographing weddings and families across this region for over 15 years. The Illawarra escarpment, the coastline, the hinterland towns and the distinctive community feel of this stretch between Sydney and the South Coast, I know it all intimately, and I love photographing within it.

The Illawarra is often overlooked as a wedding destination in favour of the Southern Highlands or the South Coast further south, but it has everything those regions offer and more, dramatic escarpment backdrops, a beautiful coastline, accessible heritage towns and a growing community of exceptional venues.

Illawarra Venues I Photograph

The Illawarra has a strong range of wedding venues, from coastal clifftop properties to hinterland farm estates and heritage buildings throughout the region.

Venues I photograph regularly include:

- Greyleigh, Kiama

- The Lodge, Jamberoo

- Venues throughout Wollongong, Kiama and the surrounding Illawarra

Each offers a different experience and a different photographic environment. I approach all of them with the same documentary mindset, observing, following, documenting.

My Approach in the Illawarra

Photographing in the region I call home means I come to every Illawarra wedding with an intimate knowledge of the light, the locations and the landscape. I know where the afternoon light falls at Kiama. I know the portrait opportunities along the escarpment. I know the small places that most photographers from out of the region do not find.

That local knowledge makes a difference in the final gallery.

I photograph weddings in the Illawarra the way I photograph everywhere, as a documentary, with no interruption to the natural flow of the day. Real moments, captured honestly.

Wollongong Wedding Photographer

Wollongong is a city with a genuine personality, a coastal city at the foot of the escarpment with a creative, outdoors-focused community and a range of venues that reflect its character. I photograph weddings throughout Wollongong and the broader city area regularly.

The Illawarra Escarpment

One of the most photographically distinctive features of the Illawarra is the escarpment itself, the dramatic sandstone wall that rises immediately behind Wollongong and defines the western edge of the region. Whether it appears as a backdrop in wide shots or as a portrait location in its own right, the escarpment gives Illawarra weddings a visual distinctiveness that no other region in NSW can replicate.

35mm Film in the Illawarra

The Illawarra's coastal light translates beautifully onto 35mm film, the warm afternoon light, the blue of the Pacific and the green of the escarpment all have a vibrancy that film captures with a particular depth. Ask about film add-ons when you enquire.

Southern Highlands Wedding Photographer

Southern Highlands Wedding Photographer | Eliza Jade Photography

The Southern Highlands is one of Australia's great wedding destinations, a cool-climate plateau two hours south of Sydney with a landscape that shifts between formal heritage gardens, open farmland, ancient rainforest and rolling countryside. Weddings here have a quality to them that couples from Sydney travel specifically to access, and the venues match the landscape at every turn.

I am a wedding photographer based on the South Coast of NSW and I photograph weddings across the Southern Highlands throughout the year. The region's light, its landscape and its venues are all deeply familiar to me, I have been working here for over 15 years.

Southern Highlands Venues I Photograph

The Southern Highlands has a remarkable concentration of exceptional wedding venues, each with its own character and aesthetic.

Venues I photograph regularly include:

- Bendooley Estate, Bowral

- Montrose House, Sutton Forest

- Mali Brae Farm, Robertson

- Fitzroy Inn, Mittagong

- The Imperial, Mittagong

- Ravensthorpe, Southern Highlands

Each of these venues offers something distinct, the grand heritage of Montrose House, the working farm character of Mali Brae, the intimate warmth of Fitzroy Inn. I come to each one with the same approach: documentary, unhurried and focused on what is actually happening.

My Approach in the Southern Highlands

The Southern Highlands attracts couples who care about the setting and the experience, people who have chosen their venue deliberately and who want photography that reflects the real quality of the day they have planned.

My style suits this. I photograph weddings as they actually unfold, without interrupting the natural pace of the day to manufacture moments. At Southern Highlands venues, the setting does a great deal of work on its own. My job is to place you authentically within it and document what happens.

The Highlands Light

The Southern Highlands light is one of my favourite things about working in this region. The altitude creates a softness and clarity that is distinct from coastal or city light, cooler, crisper and extraordinarily flattering in photographs. The cool-climate gardens and open farmland that surround most venues here also contribute a freshness and colour saturation that makes images from the Highlands feel particularly alive.

Film Photography in the Highlands

The Southern Highlands is one of my most recommended regions for 35mm film add-ons. The heritage architecture, the cool-climate gardens and the highlands light all translate onto film with a depth and warmth that suits the aesthetic of this region perfectly.

Based on the South Coast, Shooting the Highlands

I am based in Wollongong on the South Coast, approximately one hour from the Northern Southern Highlands and easily accessible to venues throughout the region. I do not charge travel fees for Southern Highlands weddings.

South Coast Wedding Photographer

South Coast Wedding Photographer | Eliza Jade Photography

The South Coast of NSW is one of Australia's most beautiful stretches of coastline, dramatic escarpments dropping to white sand beaches, ancient rainforest meeting open ocean, and a string of towns that have retained their character and community in ways the city never could. It is also one of the most spectacular regions in the country to get married, and I feel lucky to call it home.

I am a South Coast wedding photographer based in Wollongong. I have been photographing weddings and families across this coastline for over 15 years, and I know its light, its landscapes and its venues intimately.

Venues I Photograph Across the South Coast

The South Coast has a remarkable range of wedding venues, from converted heritage co-operatives in Gerringong to sprawling farm properties in Berry, coastal clifftop venues at Jervis Bay and everything in between.

Venues I photograph regularly include:

- The Cove, Jervis Bay

- The Woods Farm, Jervis Bay

- Willow Farm, Berry

- The Homestead, Berry

- The Co-Op, Gerringong

- Terrara House, Nowra

- Greyleigh, Kiama

- The Lodge, Jamberoo

Each venue has its own character and its own photographic opportunities. I come to each one with the same approach, documentary, relaxed and focused entirely on the real moments of your day.

My Style on the South Coast

I photograph weddings the way they actually happen. No stiff poses, no forced groupings, no interrupting the speeches to get a better angle. I move quietly through the day, staying close enough to capture the genuine moments, the vow tears, the first look, the grandmother pulling you in for a hug before the ceremony starts, without disrupting the natural flow of things.

The South Coast landscape gives me beautiful material to work with. The coastal light is soft and luminous, the natural backdrops are extraordinary, and the venues here tend to attract couples with an eye for the authentic, which makes my job a genuine pleasure.

35mm Film on the South Coast

The South Coast's natural textures, the white sand, the ancient bush, the weathered timber of heritage buildings, translate beautifully onto 35mm film. I offer film add-ons for couples who want that warm, tactile aesthetic alongside their digital gallery.

Covering the Full South Coast

I photograph weddings from Wollongong and Kiama in the north, through Gerringong, Berry and Nowra, all the way down to Jervis Bay and the broader Shoalhaven. I also regularly cross into the Southern Highlands and Kangaroo Valley, which sit just inland from this stretch of coast.
