The Co-Op in Gerringong is one of the South Coast’s most distinctive wedding venues, a converted heritage dairy co-operative that sits right in the heart of Gerringong township with ocean views and a creative, industrial aesthetic that feels genuinely unique. It is raw, characterful and the kind of venue that photographs in a way that surprises people.
The Character of The Co-Op
What makes The Co-Op so interesting to photograph is exactly what makes it a memorable venue, the heritage bones of the building, the exposed timber, the concrete and the industrial-era detailing all create a backdrop that is unlike any other South Coast venue. Paired with the ocean views and the town setting of Gerringong itself, it offers a range of environments within a very compact footprint.
My documentary approach suits The Co-Op perfectly. The venue has a gritty, creative character and couples who choose it tend to have the same, relaxed, unpretentious and genuinely interested in having a wedding that looks and feels like them.
Gerringong as a Location
Gerringong is one of the South Coast’s most loved coastal towns, a short drive south of Kiama and sitting above one of the most photographed beaches on the coast. The ocean views from The Co-Op’s elevated position are genuinely spectacular, and they provide a dramatic backdrop for portraits and wide shots throughout the day.
The surrounding streets and the nearby coastline also offer portrait options that extend beyond the venue walls, I am always happy to use whatever the location offers.
